Research and Innovation

Research and innovation are vital tools for Europe's ability to reach the targets for the future. New knowledge, technology and innovation are key factors for succeeding with the EU Green Deal, the recovery after COVID-19, and a future green, resilient Europe.

R&I is important for North Norway for the same reasons, but also to gain more knowledge about the Arctic and the effects of climate changes on the region, as well as for sustainable development and thriving communities in the north.

North Norway European Office (NNEO) follows the topic closely, both the policy developments and the possibilities within the programmes, such as Horizon Europe and Interreg. Our work is twofold; information about the EU to North Norway, and information about North Norway towards the EU in Brussels.

In Brussels

North Norway European Office represents the interests of northern Norway in Brussels. By promoting the R&I projects from North Norway, we contribute to raise awareness about Arctic research, for example within social sciences, bioeconomy, health, transport and technology.

We promote projects who have already received funding from the EU, but also projects with international potential and quality. The decisions made by the EU institutions are important also for Norway even though we are not part of the EU. Making sure that the experts from our regions have the opportunity to have their voices heard, is therefore important.

North Norway European Office is a member of the regional research network ERRIN.

In North Norway

The strategy of NNEO for 2021-2024, states that we will contribute to raising the level of knowledge and awareness about the EU, and ensure that actors in North Norway take advantage of the possibilities within the EEA agreement.

This means that we contribute with information about relevant policy developments, new strategies and initiatives, but also the opportunities within the EU programmes that are relevant for North Norway. In addition, contributing to the mobilisation of R&I communities and organisations to increase the number of proposals from North Norway, is a priority for the office.
